The annual Market Week eating comp is back! Last year it was oysters, this year we’re embracing all things Spanish with a Churros eating competition! Also known as Spanish donuts and usually dipped in chocolate sauce, these fried sticks of doughy goodness have people forming long, orderly queues every Market day. If you’re a fan – prove it! Register on the day!
This year the ‘icons within the icons’ will also be recognised with the inaugural ‘Melbourne Market Awards Ceremony’ on Sunday 8th September.
Shoppers have been voting for their favourite traders at each market over the past few weeks. The awards are designed to recognise the hard-working, much loved traders across all four markets. An expert panel will assess the favourite traders from each market across eight categories with Melbourne’s best market traders being announced at the ceremony. These winners will be celebrated throughout the week.

In the meantime, visit your nearest market and enjoy some of the new season spring produce. This month I am buying lots of asparagus, broad beans, avocado, tangelos and blood oranges.
